Background and Objectives: The attitude toward marital infidelity is one of the factors that exposes families to collapse. This study predicts the attitude toward marital infidelity in married women based on the quality of their relationship with their father, religious attitude, and emotional dysregulation.
Methods: The present descriptive correlational study was conducted on 298 married women from Mashhad City, Iran, who were selected through convenience sampling. To collect the data, the attitude towards marital infidelity scale, the fatherhood scale (FS), the religious attitude questionnaire, and the difficulties in emotion regulation scale were used. The Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis were employed to analyze the relationships between the variables and predict changes in attitudes toward marital infidelity.
Results: Religious attitude and attitude toward marital infidelity had a significant negative relationship (P<0.001). Additionally, there was a significant negative relationship between the quality of the relationship with the father and attitude toward marital infidelity (P<0.05); however, emotional dysregulation had a non-significant positive relationship with attitude toward marital infidelity. The regression analysis results showed that religious attitude was a significant predictor of the attitude toward marital infidelity (P<0.001).
Conclusion: Higher religious attitude and the quality of the relationship with the father lead to the lower the attitude toward marital infidelity.
