Introduction & Objective: Chronic back pain imposes a heavy burden on individuals, families, societies and governments from a medical, psychological, social and economic point of view and is known as a common, recurring and costly problem all over the world, so the present study aims to determine the effectiveness of treatment. Acceptance and commitment were done on emotional flexibility and spiritual distress of women with chronic back pain.
Method: The current research was semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The research population included all women suffering from chronic back pain who referred to the specialized pain clinics of Razavi and Imam Reza hospitals in Mashhad in 2023, of which 20 qualified people volunteered to participate in the research. They were selected by available sampling method and randomly placed in two groups (10 people in the experimental group and 10 people in the control group). The experimental group underwent intervention in eight face-to-face sessions of 90 minutes in a period of two months, and the control group received the usual intervention. The data collection tools included emotional flexibility questionnaires by Rashid and Bayat (2018) and spiritual distress by Ko et al. (2010). Data analysis was done with SPSS version 24 software and multivariate and un ivariate analysis of covariance at a significance level of α=0.05.
Results: The results showed that by controlling the pre-test effect between the post-test mean of emotional flexibility (positive emotional regulation, negative emotional regulation and emotional communication) and spiritual distress (communication with self, communication with others, communication with God and facing death) in two experimental groups. And there was evidence of a significant difference (P<0.01).
Conclusion: Treatment based on acceptance and commitment significantly increases emotional flexibility (positive emotional regulation, negative emotional regulation and emotional communication) and improves spiritual distress (communication with self, communication with others, and communication with God and facing death) of women with chronic back pain. has been
